IRIS Connect hosts event to shape the future of CPD

Shape the future of CPD with IRIS Connect

Education experts and thought-leaders gathered at Kings Place in London to challenge the status quo and help chart a course for the future of CPD.

The aim of “Shaping the future of CPD” was to come together to share knowledge and experience as well as identifying and embedding truly effective professional development in schools.

Tim Brighouse talking at Shaping the Future of CPDAfter a welcome from Graham Newell, Director of Education at IRIS Connect, the day got off to a positive start with five success stories of CPD journeys from across the country.

The keynote was delivered by Sir Tim Brighouse, in which he identified four aspects that are central to successful CPD:

“Teachers need four things that should be at the absolute heart of our CPD, they need responsibility, they love leadership, it’s the work that gets in the way, secondly they need to work in an atmosphere of permitting circumstances where they know they can take risks…thirdly they need new experiences…and forth they need respect. I think we’re moving into a period where all those four things are more possible than they’ve ever been before.”

With a series of table discussions, attendees were given the chance to express their own hopes for the future of CPD.

David Weston at shaping the future of cpdAttendees gained an insight into to the Future of Video CPD from Matt Newell, Director of Technology at IRIS Connect, where he unveiled exciting new features of the IRIS Connect platform.

Facilitated by Ken Brechin, the panel Q&A section proved a big hit with Pete Dudley, David Weston, Philippa Cordingley and Vivienne Porritt as panellists. You can watch the expert panel Q&A or any of the other sessions from the day here.

Key themes to come out of the day included:

  • Building trust and respect for teachers throughout the education system
  • Creating capacity within and between schools to enable more meaningful, collaborative CPD
  • Developing more decisive approaches to evidence and measuring the impact of CPD
  • Using technology as a powerful tool to release potential

All notes, videos and feedback from the day will be collated into a written report to be distributed in March so watch this space…
